Example: a $80.00 bill at 18% tip split between 4 people → tip $14.40, total $94.40, each person pays $23.60. Bump the tip to 20% for great service and each share becomes $24.00.

How is the tip calculated? ›
Tip = bill × (tip % / 100). Total = bill + tip. Each person pays total ÷ number of people. The math is the standard pre-tax-on-bill convention used by most US restaurants; if your bill already includes tax, decide whether you want to tip on the pre-tax subtotal or the post-tax total and enter the number you want to tip on.
What does "Round up each share" do? ›
It rounds each person's share up to the nearest whole currency unit (e.g. $23.60 → $24.00) and recomputes the group total from those rounded shares. Use it when collecting cash so nobody needs to dig for coins — it usually produces a small extra tip for the server.
Does it work for other currencies? ›
Yes. Pick any of the listed currencies (or "—" for no symbol) and the formatting adapts. The numbers themselves are currency-neutral — you type the bill in whatever units your bill uses.
What is a good tip percentage? ›
Customary tipping varies by country and service. In the US 15–20% is typical for sit-down restaurant service; 18% is a common default. In many other countries service is included or tipping is not expected — adjust to local norms.
