About this tool

A QR code turns any text or URL into a scannable 2D barcode that a phone camera reads in a second. This generator supports five common content types — plain text or URL, WiFi network credentials, email, SMS, and a contact card (vCard) — so guests can join your WiFi or save your number without typing.

Example: in the WiFi tab enter SSID MyNetwork, password s3cret-pass, leave WPA selected — the resulting QR joins any phone to your network on scan. In Contact, enter a name and phone — scanning it adds a new entry to the phone's address book.

Error correction adds redundancy: High (~30%) still scans when a logo is overlaid on the centre or part of the code is smudged. Margin (quiet zone) is the empty border scanners need to detect the code — 2–4 modules is standard for print.

FAQ

How much text can a QR code hold?

Up to about 7,089 numeric characters, 4,296 alphanumeric, or 2,953 bytes in binary mode. In practice, longer text makes the code denser and harder to scan from a distance, so URLs and short strings work best.

Should I use PNG or SVG?

PNG is fine for screens and small prints. SVG is vector — it stays sharp at any size, so pick it for large banners, packaging, or anything that will be resized. SVG files are also smaller for simple codes.

Why did my QR code stop working after I darkened the foreground?

Scanners need strong contrast between dark modules and a light background. Keep the foreground dark and the background light; pure black on pure white scans most reliably.

Do WiFi QR codes work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Modern iOS (15.4+) and Android (10+) both scan WiFi QR codes natively from the camera app and prompt to join the network. WPA networks work universally; open networks and hidden SSIDs may behave differently on older devices.

I have a QR image — how do I read what is inside it?

Use the <a href="/qr-decoder" class="text-accent hover:underline">QR Code Decoder</a> — upload, paste, or drag a QR picture and it extracts the text, URL, WiFi credentials, or contact card.

What about 1D barcodes for inventory or shipping?

QR codes are 2D and hold lots of data, but some use cases call for traditional 1D barcodes — retail UPC/EAN labels, warehouse Code128 tags, or shipping ITF-14 carton codes. Use the <a href="/barcode-generator" class="text-accent hover:underline">Barcode Generator</a> for those symbologies, which are optimized for laser scanners and GS1 compliance.
