About this tool

QR Code Decoder reads a QR code from any image you give it — drag-and-drop, paste from the clipboard, or browse for a file — and extracts the text encoded inside. It works on screenshots, photos, and exported QR pictures alike.

Example: a QR encoding https://deftools.io is detected as a URL and offers an "Open link" button. A QR built by a WiFi-sharing app is detected as WiFi and parsed into SSID, password, and encryption fields, so you don't have to copy each value by hand.

Recognised content types: plain URLs, mailto:, tel:, sms:/smsto:, WIFI: network credentials, vCard and MeCard contact cards, and geo: coordinates. Anything else comes back as plain text you can copy.

FAQ

The decoder says "No QR code found". What can I do?

Make sure the QR fills most of the frame, is well-lit, and has sharp edges. Crop tightly around the code, increase contrast, or scale the image up. Blurry, skewed, or partially obscured QR codes may fail to decode.

Does this work with a photo taken by phone?

Yes, as long as the QR is clearly visible and roughly square. If the photo is at a strong angle or out of focus, try cropping and straightening the code first.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read locally in your browser and the QR is decoded on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

What is the difference between this and the QR Code Generator?

The Generator creates a QR image from text you type. The Decoder goes the other way: it reads an existing QR image and gives you back the text inside it.
