Domain Brainstorm
Describe your project. Get creative domain names. Check availability instantly via DNS.
About this tool
Describe your project in a sentence and the tool combines your keywords with common developer suffixes and prefixes to produce candidate domain names, then checks each one against live DNS to flag likely availability. Toggle the TLD buttons to control which extensions (.io, .com, .dev, .sh, .ai, and others) are considered.
Availability is inferred from DNS: if a domain has no A record and returns NXDOMAIN it is marked "free!", meaning nothing is registered at that name. A domain that resolves but has no A record is marked "maybe", and any domain with an A record is "taken". This is a fast heuristic, not a definitive registrar check.
Example: describing "a suite of free developer tools" may suggest names like devtools.io, quickcode.dev, or bytehub.sh, each tagged free, maybe, or taken.
FAQ
Is the availability check 100% accurate? ›
No. The tool queries DNS over HTTPS and treats an NXDOMAIN response as "free". A domain can be registered but have no DNS records configured, in which case it shows as "maybe". Always confirm with a registrar before purchasing.
How are the name suggestions generated? ›
Your description is split into keywords, then combined with curated developer prefixes (tool, dev, code, hub, lab) and suffixes (kit, hub, ly, ify, io). Short, all-letter combinations are kept and shuffled, giving a different set each time you click Generate.
Why does a domain show as "taken" when the site looks unused? ›
A registered domain with any DNS A record is marked "taken" regardless of whether a website is live. Parked, redirected, or reserved domains all count as registered.
How do I copy a domain name? ›
Click any domain card to copy the full domain to your clipboard. Each card is clickable — the name, the TLD, and the area around it all trigger the copy.
Can I share a domain brainstorm with someone? ›
Yes. Click the Share link button to copy a URL that encodes your project description and selected TLDs. Opening that link restores the same query and runs the brainstorm automatically.
